After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Excelsior Springs, Raytown was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Grandview Bulldogs. The Bluejays haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
William Buckman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Buckman was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Buckman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was DeWane Williams, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
The win got Raytown back to even at 1-1. As for Grandview, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
Looking ahead, Raytown will face off against Truman at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Grandview, they will square off against Varsity Opponent at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
