Softball Recap: Delavan Wins Going Away Against Princeville

Delavan had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Princeville on Monday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Princes. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 victory the Princes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Lainey Klokkenga made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs.

In other batting news, Delavan let Nola Houston and Addi Fisher run wild. Houston went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Fisher went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Fisher has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kara Lowry, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Delavan's win bumped their record up to 12-14. As for Princeville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 18 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Delavan will face off against Deer Creek-Mackinaw at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Princeville, they will challenge Abingdon/Avon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Princes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tornadoes have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
