Baseball Game Preview: Fort Mill Yellow Jackets vs. Clover Blue Eagles

Fort Mill and Clover are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to challenge the Clover Blue Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Mill's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Clover's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fort Mill barely beat Clover the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Fort Mill was the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over Clover on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Blue Eagles: they've now won five in a row.

John Risk made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Alex Carreiro tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Jacob Pettit was incredible, firing off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. Jackson Bendis also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Fort Mill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clover only posted an OBP of .300.

Fort Mill's record now sits at 6-2. As for Clover, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
