Baseball Recap: West Mesa Has No Trouble Against Socorro

On Saturday, the West Mesa Mustangs made easy work of the Socorro Warriors and carried off a 19-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three matchups by 17 runs or more so far this season.

West Mesa got a massive performance out of Armoni Baca, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Baca has become a key player for West Mesa: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Antonio Gonzales was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

West Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for West Mesa and bumps their season record up to 3-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.5 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.6 in the others. As for Socorro, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
