Elle Leavitt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Pearl Kingman was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Leavitt wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Alamo Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for Alamo Heights: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 14.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial got the win against Boerne-Champion on Friday by a conclusive 9-1. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.
Kyani Morn made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hara Wessling, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alaina Peper, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Veterans Memorial's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Alamo Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alamo Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
