Baseball Game Preview: Clear Creek Golddiggers vs. South Park Burros

The Clear Creek Golddiggers will take on the South Park Burros at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Clear Creek will be strutting in after a win while South Park will be coming in after a loss.

On Thursday, Clear Creek needed a bit of extra time to put away Front Range Christian. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golddiggers have posted since April 23, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Wyatt Huff, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Landon Lewis was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Clear Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times South Park and Cripple Creek-Victor have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Burros fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 11-9.

Aiden Wilson and Kyle Basnett did some serious damage despite the final result: Wilson scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Basnett scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Basnett has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Walker, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Clear Creek's win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for South Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
