Basketball Recap: Sandy Spring Friends Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Saint James

On Saturday, the Sandy Spring Friends Wildebeests were able to grind out a solid victory over the Saint James Saints, taking the game 57-48. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildebeests' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Saints are ranked 20th).

Jayden Yates and Christian Gladchuk certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Yates went 10 of 25 en route to 22 points and six boards, while Gladchuk almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Yates' third in a row with at least ten points.

Sandy Spring Friends' victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Saint James, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandy Spring Friends will face off against Indian Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Indian Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. As for Saint James, they will challenge Sidwell Friends at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
