Recap: El Cerrito Gauchos vs. Ygnacio Valley Wolves

The El Cerrito Gauchos suffered their biggest loss since November 25, 2023 on Monday. They were beaten by Ygnacio Valley 78-48. While losing is never fun, El Cerrito can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 741st, while Ygnacio Valley is ranked 135th).

Antonio Kellogg Jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ygnacio Valley, scoring 23 points along with two steals. Kellogg Jr is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Todd Tatom Jr, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

El Cerrito has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Ygnacio Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Cerrito will take on Richmond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ygnacio Valley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Concord at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Concord is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
