Softball Recap: Champaign Central Picks Up 14th Consecutive Win

Champaign Central won the last time they faced Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and things went their way on Friday too. The Maroons skirted past Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 3-2. That's two games straight that the Maroons have won by just one run.

Haley Helm made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eden Harding, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The victory (which was Champaign Central's 14th in a row) raised their record to 18-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 14-6 record.

Looking ahead, Champaign Central will challenge Newton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
