Soccer Game Preview: East Mecklenburg vs. Independence

East Mecklenburg is 2-8 against Independence since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Independence took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on East Mecklenburg, who comes in off a win.

East Mecklenburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Rocky River an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for East Mecklenburg, who have now won six matches by four goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Independence's offense. They lost 5-0 to Sun Valley on Monday. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Sun Valley are ranked 75th).

The victory snapped East Mecklenburg's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-8 record. As for Independence, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10.

East Mecklenburg beat Independence 4-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
