Softball Recap: Hobgood Charter Takes a Loss

Hobgood Charter dropped their record down to 7-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 11-1 to the Martin County Gators. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Hobgood Charter saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kinsey Peel, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Martin County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

On Martin County's side, Erica Sturgill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Sturgill has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ty'Hiera Wooten was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Riley Cowan, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Hobgood Charter has already played their next game, a 15-5 victory against Mattamuskeet on the 17th. As for Martin County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-0 win against Tarboro on the 17th.
