Recap: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Marion Wildcats
The Mt. Vernon Rams suffered their closest loss since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of Marion by a score of 28-25. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mt. Vernon has scored all season.
Mt. Vernon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cale Maurer, who scored five points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of David Barnes, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Mt. Vernon and nudges their season record down to 20-9. As for Marion, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon is on the road again on Friday and plays Carbondale at 7:30 p.m. on February 16th. Carbondale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 74th). As for Marion, they will head out on the road to face off against Cahokia at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
