Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Mendez

Mendez waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Contreras Cobras 14-4. That's more bragging rights for the Jaguars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Summer Mu?oz was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yvette De Los Santos, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luna Rubio, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Mendez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Mendez's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.3 runs over those games. As for Contreras, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mendez Jaguars face off against Robert F. Kennedy Community Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Contreras, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Belmont at 4:00 p.m.
