League recap: Sherwood's Moore delivers best pitching performance from past week

5A Northwest Oregon's top pitcher this week was Riley Moore. He accumulated one win and five strikeouts.

Putnam made the biggest jump in the national rankings, moving from 5096 to 4936 thanks to a 1-1 record over the past week. Putnam is currently No. 52 in the state of Oregon, with an overall record of 17-8.

Sherwood boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, the Bowmen have allowed just 147 hits, while striking out 159 batters. Moore leads the Bowmen with 36 strikeouts in 31 innings.

Sherwood, the season leader in runs scored at 200, added to its total with a league-high 37 runs this week. Joseph Balfour leads the team with 32 runs scored and Jon Dailey has a team-high 23 RBIs on the year.

The week's strikeout crown belonged to Nate Montgomery, who turned in six Ks for Sherwood. With 32 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks second in the league.



Balfour led the league with six hits this week for the Bowmen. He is first in the league with 33 hits this year, and has a .440 batting average.

Taylor Bonawitz threw a shutout as he led Sherwood to victory over St. Helens, 5-2, on Wednesday. He pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out six, while giving up three hits.
