Holcomb is a perfect 10-0 against Southwestern Heights since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Longhorns will challenge the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Holcomb knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Southwestern Heights likes a good challenge.
On Tuesday, Holcomb beat Cimarron 10-5. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Bluejays recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Keegan Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Angelo Otero and Korbin Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Otero scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Korbin scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three hits gave Otero a new career-high.
Holcomb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cimarron only posted an OBP of .324.
Meanwhile, Southwestern Heights hadn't done well against Cimarron recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bluejays, sneaking past 10-8. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Jaime Garcia was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season. Parker Leak was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
The victory made it two in a row for Southwestern Heights and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Holcomb, their record is now 9-3.
Holcomb took their victory against Southwestern Heights in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
