Baseball Recap: Strayhorn Comes Up Short

Strayhorn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Olive Branch Conquistadors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Conquistadors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 last Monday.

John-Asher Perry was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Strayhorn's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Sanders Sowell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Strayhorn's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Olive Branch, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Strayhorn will welcome Biggersville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Olive Branch, they will challenge Millington Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
