The Homestead Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Live Oak Acorns at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Homestead barely beat Milpitas the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 18-7 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Mackenzie Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Gwyn Romero was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Cierra Hagan was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Live Oak came out on top against Christopher on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Acorns blew past the Cougars 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Acorns, who have now won 14 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Homestead, Live Oak also got a great game from a two-way player: Maya Medina. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Medina has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Kayla Tulowitzki was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Olivia Mixco, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Live Oak pushed their record up to 23-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Homestead, their record now sits at 13-4.
Homestead came up short against Live Oak in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
