Basketball Recap: Athens Drive Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

Athens Drive hadn't done well against Cardinal Gibbons recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Athens Drive Jaguars came out on top against the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders by a score of 54-42. This was a revenge game for the Jaguars: when they faced off against the Crusaders back in January, they had to take a 44-39 loss.

Athens Drive had a senior duo take command as Makenzie Kelly dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten assists and Quincie Toran went 8-for-13 to rack up 19 points. Those ten assists set a new season-high mark for Kelly. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Sheppard, who posted seven points and eight boards.

Athens Drive smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Cardinal Gibbons still got an impressive performance from Miller Kuss, who earned seven points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. What's more, Kuss also posted four assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Fusco, who had 13 points.

Athens Drive has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.

As of now, neither Athens Drive nor Cardinal Gibbons have any future games scheduled.
