Baseball Recap: Morenci Comes Up Short

Morenci extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-8. They lost 15-0 to Summerfield. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

As for Summerfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

For Summerfield's part, Reece Kalb made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kalb has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Summerfield got a big performance out of Clark Ciacelli, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Ciacelli has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Horak, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Summerfield beat Morenci by a score of 11-0 later that day.
