Baseball Recap: Bonita Springs Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Bonita Springs, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Estero Wildcats 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Bullsharks: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in March, they had to take a 5-4 defeat.

Harrison Kalina looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bonita Springs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Hernandez Jr, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Hernandez Jr has become a key player for the Bullsharks: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Jacob Estrada was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.

Bonita Springs pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Estero, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Bonita Springs will host Southwest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Estero does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
