Preview: Blue River Valley Vikings vs. Tri Titans

The Blue River Valley Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Tri Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Blue River Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Blue River Valley came up short against Wapahani and fell 42-33. While losing is never fun, Blue River Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Wapahani is ranked 102nd).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Maciah Driskill, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. She scored a full 27.3% of Blue River Valley's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlee Gibson, who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Tri came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Cambridge City Lincoln at home to the tune of 61-24. That's two games straight that Tri has won by exactly 37 points.

Tri got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenley Cornelius out in front who scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds. Cornelius is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now stole two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylee Boyd, who scored 21 points.

Blue River Valley's win lifted them to 3-2 while Wapahani's defeat dropped them down to 5-1.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Blue River Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Tri struggles in that department as they've been even better at 34 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Blue River Valley might still be hurting after the 42-20 loss they got from Tri in their previous meeting back in February. Thankfully for Blue River Valley, Bailey Parham (who scored 15 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
