Softball Preview: Armwood Hawks vs. Lennard Longhorns
Armwood is 2-8 against Lennard since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Armwood will host Lennard at 10:00 a.m. Armwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Armwood turned things around against Freedom on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 16-6 victory. The Hawks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 20th.
Dichelle Walker tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
On the hitting side, Justine Smith was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nadia Robinson, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
Armwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Lennard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Riverview, falling 11-1.
Armwood's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Lennard, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
