Softball Game Preview: Thomasville Bulldogs vs. West Davidson Dragons

Thomasville hasn't had much luck against West Davidson recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will host the Dragons at 4:30 p.m. Thomasville has given up an average of 18.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thomasville is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Salisbury on Friday. They lost 18-2 to the Hornets. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, West Davidson made easy work of Salisbury on Tuesday and carried off a 16-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Mahala Darnell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Darnell was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Abigail Leonard was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Gracie Michael was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

West Davidson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

West Davidson pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Thomasville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
