Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.) bested Deer Valley (Glendale, Ariz.) 55-0 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Jalen Ortiz in the first quarter, the Coyotes led 27-0 at the half.
Centennial expanded its lead to 48 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored three times in the third, including once on a Grant touchdown pass to
Wes Westbrook.
Led by
Marcus Farria, the Peoria school had given up an average of 17.2 points prior to the contest.
The Coyotes got revenge for last year's 14-7 loss to the Skyhawks with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Deer Valley, which notched a 42-7 victory over Bradshaw Mountain in its previous outing. The victory was a step in the right direction for Centennial, which was coming off a 28-24 defeat at the hands of Ironwood Ridge in its previous game.
In a II Section I game next week Centennial (6-1) takes on Independence, and Deer Valley (2-5) will go up against Apollo also in a II Section I game.
