Preview: Mayer Wildcats vs. Desert Heights Prep Yote
The Mayer Wildcats will be home for the holidays to greet the Desert Heights Prep Yote at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Friday, Mayer came up short against San Pasqual Valley and fell 48-40. Mayer has struggled against San Pasqual Valley recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Desert Heights Prep, who are still winless after their fifth game. They fell 66-53 to Valley Lutheran on Wednesday.
Despite the defeat, Desert Heights Prep had strong showings from Luke Beck, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds, and Darron Flores, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Flores scored a full 39.6% of Desert Heights Prep's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Joey Gall, who scored five points.
Mayer bumped their record down to 2-9 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Desert Heights Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Mayer suffered a grim 65-45 defeat to Desert Heights Prep in their previous meeting back in January. Can Mayer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
