Mariemont proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their defense stepped up to hand the Madeira MUSTANGS/AMAZONS a 1-0 shutout. Give Mariemont's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Isabelle Iwanicki, who's now up to two this season.

Mariemont's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 26 goals over those five contests. As for Madeira, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-4-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mariemont will host Oakwood at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Oakwood's defense has only allowed 0.2 goals per game this season, so Mariemont's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Madeira, they will be taking part in a tournament against Norwood at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th.
