John Paul the Great Academy had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the NELA Christian Homeschool Flame. For the Guardians, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Flame walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (109-106) John Paul the Great Academy actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-13.

John Paul the Great Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anna Guidry, who had six aces, five kills, and one block. Guidry has been hot recently, having posted six or more aces the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Autumn Terrance, who had six kills and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: John Paul the Great Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 14 aces in five consecutive contests.

John Paul the Great Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for NELA Christian Homeschool, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. John Paul the Great Academy will challenge rival Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, NELA Christian Homeschool is set to face off against their familiar foe Bishop Noland Episcopal Day at 6:30 p.m. on September 5.
