Softball Game Preview: Pelham Panthers vs. West Blocton Tigers

The Pelham Panthers will square off against the West Blocton Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Pelham duked it out with Spain Park on Tuesday. The Panthers walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Jaguars. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Jordan Young made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

Young wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Howard, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Blocton). They never let Holt get on the board and left with a 22-0 win on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Pelham's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-14. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for West Blocton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-10.
