Soccer Game Preview: DeKalb County vs. Cookeville

The DeKalb County Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Cookeville Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, DeKalb County turned things around against Watertown on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Purple Tigers with a sharp 5-2 win. Considering DeKalb County's offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Cookeville had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2 goals) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Red Hawks. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Cookeville were the better team in the second half.

Cookeville's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. As for DeKalb County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7-1.

DeKalb County suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Cookeville when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
