Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for New Hope

New Hope extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 11-10. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Caledonia Cavaliers 4-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Caledonia, they moved to 10-9 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but New Hope's pitchers proved too tough.

For Caledonia's part, Reid Garrett was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Garrett has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

In other pitching news, Caledonia got a good showing from Chandler Cobb, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Cobb gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since March 3rd.

New Hope will have a chance to go back-to-back against Caledonia: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
