Basketball Recap: Heathwood Hall Episcopal Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

While Heathwood Hall Episcopal didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They secured a 46-40 W over the Elite Scholars Academy Royal Knights on Friday. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 35th in South Carolina, while the Royal Knights are ranked 447th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elite Scholars Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Batchelor, who posted nine points. The dominant performance gave Batchelor a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Charles-Jones, who had ten points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Heathwood Hall Episcopal is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Elite Scholars Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Heathwood Hall Episcopal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-31 loss against Baylor on the 21st. As for Elite Scholars Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-35 defeat against Woodland on the 21st.
