Basketball Recap: ITW David Speer Academy Pride vs. Johnson Pumas
The ITW David Speer Academy Pride lost against the Johnson Pumas back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. ITW David Speer Academy was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 32-31 to the Pumas. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points ITW David Speer Academy has scored all season.
ITW David Speer Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Roshaunda Wilson, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. It was the first time this season that Wilson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Makayla Hurley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds.
Destiny Taylor continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Johnson, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Johnson's points. Pierria Martin was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
ITW David Speer Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Johnson, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-9.
ITW David Speer Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Johnson will square off against the Lynx at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Butler presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Pumas in Illinois (the Lynx are ranked 59th, while the Pumas are ranked 380th).
