Myrtle took a 42-point loss the last time they faced off against Vardaman, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Rams 18-15. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 42-0 victory the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2022.

Among those leading the charge was Colton Gordon, who rushed for 66 yards and one score on only eight carries.

When it comes to explaining why Vardaman lost on Friday, don't look at Grant Parker. Despite the final result, he rushed for 125 yards and a pair of TDs. Parker's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 103 rushing yards.

Myrtle's record is now 3-1. As for Vardaman, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Myrtle will host Walnut at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vardaman, they are taking a road trip to challenge Water Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
