Volleyball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton lost against Edwards County back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Eagles fell just short of the Lions by a score of 2-1. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lions 25-21 in the first set.

Newton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 27-25, 15-8.

Hydi Bierman paced Newton's offense, picking up ten kills. Bierman got some help from Paige Wagner and her 11 assists. Bierman also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Izzy Meinhart, each putting up two.

This is the second loss in a row for Newton and nudges their season record down to 19-14. As for Edwards County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 29-3.

Newton has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 defeat against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on the 20th. As for Edwards County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Hamilton County on the 21st.
