Softball Recap: Central of Coosa County Takes a Loss

Central of Coosa County had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it seven. They lost 15-5 to the Woodland Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 back in March.

As for Woodland, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

For Woodland's part, Allie Puckett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Puckett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alyssa Taylor and Railey Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Williams went 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Taylor has posted over her last five contests. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Davidson, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Central of Coosa County will challenge Randolph County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Woodland, they will square off against Fayetteville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
