Softball Game Preview: Hawkins Hawks vs. George Washington Prep Generals

The Hawkins Hawks will take on the George Washington Prep Generals at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Hawkins is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They fell 16-12 to Jordan. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

George Washington Prep hadn't beaten Dymally on the road since March 23, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Generals walked away with a 23-20 victory over the Challengers.

Holland Allen was a standout: she scored six runs and stole two bases while getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances. Those six runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Varela, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances.

George Washington Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

George Washington Prep is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.8 runs over those games. As for Hawkins, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
