Softball Preview: Mitchell Bluejackets vs. South Central Rebels
The Mitchell Bluejackets will face off against the South Central Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Mitchell is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Orleans just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, South Central had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with a 10-2 win.
Addison Stepro was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Isla Schweitzer and Delaney Pennington did most of the damage at the plate: Schweitzer went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Pennington went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Pennington is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Roy, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
South Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Mitchell, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
