Volleyball Recap: Hattiesburg HomeSchool Comes Up Short

If Hattiesburg HomeSchool was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Perry Central on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Forerunners came up short against the Coastal Mississippi Homeschool Wildcats on Friday, falling 3-0. It was the first time this season that the Forerunners let down their fans at home.

While Hattiesburg HomeSchool was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-17, 25-23, 25-16.

Coastal Mississippi Homeschool was led to victory by Katelyn Breanna Whatley and Allison Mallett. Whatley had 11 digs and three aces, while Mallett had seven aces. Mallett has been hot, having posted four or more aces the last seven times she's played.

Hattiesburg HomeSchool's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2. As for Coastal Mississippi Homeschool, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hattiesburg HomeSchool will challenge Seminary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Coastal Mississippi Homeschool, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on September 2.
