Softball Recap: South Comes Up Short

South fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Torrance on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 5-2 to the Tartars. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lilah Cortes spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brynn Stallings made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Torrance, their record is now 16-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. South will challenge rival West at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Torrance is set to take on their familiar foe North at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tartars 3.2, the Saxons 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
