Basketball Recap: Wakefield School Skates Past Tandem Friends with Ease

After only 20 points in their last contest, Wakefield School made sure to put some points up on the board against Tandem Friends on Thursday. The Wakefield School Fighting Owls simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Tandem Friends Badgers 56-13. The Fighting Owls have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 32 points or more this season.

Meira Barnaby went supernova for Wakefield School, going 15 for 22 on her way to 35 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Barnaby a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andie Mason, who posted six points along with 17 rebounds and six steals.

Wakefield School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Wakefield School's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Tandem Friends, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wakefield School will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fredericksburg Academy at 4:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Wakefield School's defense has only allowed 16.3 points per game this season, so Fredericksburg Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. Tandem Friends also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Randolph-Macon Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 17, 2025.
