Softball Game Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Norwalk Truckers

The Lexington Minutemen will head out on the road to take on the Norwalk Truckers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lexington is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.

On Monday, Lexington beat Fredericktown 7-2.

Makaree Chapman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lexington got a big performance out of Addy Williams, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Williams' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Cantrell, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Norwalk, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Columbian 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Truckers have posted since May 10, 2024.

Lexington's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Norwalk, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season.

Lexington came out on top in a nail-biter against Norwalk in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Minutemen since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
