Softball Recap: Ida B. Wells Drops Highest Score of Season Against Franklin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ida B. Wells). They came out on top against the Franklin Quakers by a score of 14-9 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Sam Stevens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zoe Wise, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keira Thomas, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Wise wasn't the only one making solid contact: Ida B. Wells kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for the Guardians: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.

Ida B. Wells' win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5. As for Franklin, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-5.
