Softball Recap: Chinle Gets the Win

Chinle hadn't done well against Page recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Sand Devils 7-5. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Sand Devils on their field since April 22, 2023.

Charmayne Charley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off 12 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bryonna Hoskie was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jodessa Segay, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Chinle's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6. As for Page, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-8.

Coming up, Chinle will challenge St. Johns at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Redskins have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season. As for Page, they will take on Monument Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.18 runs per game on average), something the Sand Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
