Baseball Recap: Carterville Wins Going Away Against Pinckneyville

It was a proper cat-fight when Carterville challenged Pinckneyville on Thursday. The Lions blew past the Panthers 11-1. Considering the Lions have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Haiden Lange spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Lyell, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Poole, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Carterville moved to 9-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Pinckneyville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carterville will challenge Herrin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Lions are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pinckneyville, they will square off against DuQuoin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
