Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Rock Hill Bearcats

The Spring Valley Vikings came into Friday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 55-48 win over Rock Hill on Friday. Given Spring Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Bearcats are ranked 122nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Justin Skelton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with two steals. Joshua Nelson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.

Several Bearcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nigel Lightner, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Malik Ashe, who scored 12 points.

The victory got Spring Valley back to even at 10-10. As for Rock Hill, they dropped their record down to 6-16 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Spring Valley will challenge the Blue Eagles at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Clover's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. As for Rock Hill, they will be playing at home against the Yellow Jackets at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Mill is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
