Basketball Game Preview: Amarillo Sandies vs. Monterey Plainsmen

Amarillo is on a nine-game streak of home wins, while Monterey is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Amarillo Sandies will host the Monterey Plainsmen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Amarillo is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Tascosa: they outscored them in every quarter. Amarillo put the hurt on Tascosa with a sharp 52-28 win on Friday. The Sandies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 24 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Monterey beat Tascosa 69-62 on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Plainsmen's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while the Rebels are ranked 142nd).

Amarillo has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 22 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points per game. As for Monterey, their win bumped their record up to 14-15.

Amarillo didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Monterey in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 57-51 victory.
