Softball Recap: Heartland Christian Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Heartland Christian challenged Wellsville on Thursday. The Lions took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Even if the Lions couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Emily McDowell put in work no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and 13 unearned) runs off seven hits. McDowell was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Natalie Barrow stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Gabriella McDowell, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Heartland Christian's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Wellsville, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-11.

Looking ahead, Heartland Christian will challenge Leetonia at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wellsville, they will venture away from home to take on Madonna at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
