Softball Game Preview: Trumbull Eagles vs. Norwalk Bears

The Trumbull Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Norwalk Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Trumbull's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Norwalk's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Trumbull had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Stamford on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Black Knights with a sharp 17-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won three matches by more than 13 runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Norwalk came tearing into Monday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lancers 3-1. Surprisingly, this marked the Bears' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Maddie Collins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Norwalk saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Wilds, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Trumbull pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Norwalk, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Everything went Trumbull's way against Norwalk in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Trumbull made off with a 10-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
