Recap: Blanco Panthers vs. Yoakum Bulldogs
The Blanco Panthers were the 47-39 winner over the Yoakum Bulldogs when they last played one another back in November of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Blanco took a 38-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Yoakum. Blanco has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mina Broyles and Candice Lopez certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Broyles scored 17 points along with 3 steals, while Lopez scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Broyles scored a full 51.5% of Blanco's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kate Capshaw, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Among those leading the charge was Jayana Phillips, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Rios, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Blanco has fallen quite a ways from their 24-12 record last season and are now at 1-5. As for Yoakum, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-4.
Blanco will take on San Antonio Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yoakum will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Gonzales at 4:30 p.m. on November 30th. Gonzales is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
