Football Recap: Strong Performance on D from Dane Duryea and Colin Wright Leads Anselmo-Merna over Overton

Overton came into Friday's matchup looking for another win against Anselmo-Merna, but Dane Duryea wouldn't allow it. The Coyotes walked away with a 44-36 victory over the Eagles on Friday for which the team can thank Duryea, who rushed for 137 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 66 yards and one touchdown. He is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

Anselmo-Merna didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Duryea and Colin Wright.

Overton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Eli Luther, who threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 91 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Dawsen McCarter was another key player, picking up 94 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Anselmo-Merna has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 40.0 points this season. As for Overton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Anselmo-Merna will welcome Loomis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Overton, they will host Elm Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
